Yes, You Canna! This Is The Ultimate Cannabis Butter Recipe

You wanna? You canna! You wanna? You canna… make cannabutter! Creating cannabis-infused butter a.k.a cannabutter, is a slightly complicated process. It involves decarboxylation or decarbing of your cannabis to activate the THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids that well, get you high. Basically, decarbing is what happens when you light a joint and THC is released due to the heat. So, you understand why it’s important, right?

While we admit that these terms make the process sound like rocket science, it really isn’t. As long as you follow this recipe, you’ll be sorted (and high, of course). You can soon create jars of the smoothest Cannabutter to be added to your pasta, cookies, vinaigrette and sauces, pot popcorn, and just about everything.

Here’s how you can get started:

Ingredients:

1 cup of butter

1 cup water

1 cup (7-10 grams) of ground cannabis, decarboxylated.

Method:
1. Decarboxylation (skipping this step would result in a weak or unfinished product):
To decarb, preheat your oven to 245º F. Place cannabis buds on a non-stick, oven-safe tray. Cover the tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Insert the tray into the oven and set a timer for 30-40 minutes. Mix the buds every 10 minutes to ensure that it’s evenly baked.

2. Let the decarbed marijuana cool and then, grind it coarsely with a hand grinder. An oregano-like texture would be ideal.

3. Add butter and water in a stock pot or saucepan. Let it simmer on low. Adding water helps regulate the temperature and prevents the butter from burning.

4. As the butter begins to melt, add in your coarsely-ground decarbed cannabis.

5. Maintain low heat (ideally above 160º F but never exceeding 200º F) and let the mixture simmer for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. It should never come to a full boil.

6. Set a funnel on top of a jar and line it with cheesecloth. Once the butter has cooled off, pour it over the cheesecloth funnel and allow it to strain freely. (Tip: Don’t squeeze the cheesecloth as it may push the odd-tasting plant through).

7. Refrigerate the jar of butter. If excess water forms at the bottom of the jar, you can remove the solid butter with a knife and drain the water out. (The butter will need to refrigerate for about an hour before removing the water.)

8. Measure and carefully add doses of your butter to snacks, dishes, and desserts.
